As I hung out with members of my church family tonight at the beautiful Mariner’s Church in Orange County, CA, my great friend Sean Smith reminded me that one of my former posts said that I will get back on blogging. I am trying to avoid any such claims anymore when I write, because frankly, life happens. The last two months have been a blur with family obligations, work and a project that I am so excited to work on have consumed my life and I am looking forward to the grind to slow down a bit. So what, might you ask, gets me back in the swing of writing here again?

Catalyst West Coast. As I write this, I am in a hotel room in Irvine for the conference that, I truly believe, is going to rock my world. After my love for Jesus and my family, my passion lie in (no particular order) my church, my business and becoming a better leader for both of those things. This conference promises to expand on all of these things, with music by Hillsong United thrown in to really make it a party.

There have been times in my life that I have felt were turning points for me. Times where I knew God was getting me ready for some big things. I don’t want to overstate it, but I believe this is one of those times. With the things that I have been working on, in business and church, I feel that the groundwork has been laid and these two days are going to kick into overdrive. There is a passage in Exodus where God sends Moses to the promised land:

The Lord said to Moses, “Depart; go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought up out of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘To your offspring I will give it.’ Exodus 33:1 (ESV)

Today, as I sit here writing, I feel like that. Not comparing myself to Moses, but that clear voice saying, “Alright man, this is where the fun really starts!”

So, like Greg mentioned tonight, my prayer is that God just open me up in the next two day to take in all that I will experience, soak it all in and let Him lead me to where he wants me to be. This is so awesome. Stay tuned for the reports!

Over the holidays, I have had the opportunity to read quite a bit. Not just books, but blog posts and articles as well. Obviously, it is the start of the new year, so many are writing and talking about where to go. Words like vision, purpose, dream and focus have been top of the list in my reading. And with my Bible reading, I see it in the life of Jesus:

42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desolate place. And the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them,43 but he said to them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose.” Luke 4:42-43 ESV

This verse really spoke to me. In this, Jesus had done some great stuff in Capernaum, but he had to move on. I am at that point right now where a lot of great stuff has happened in my life and career, but I am getting the feeling today that I really need to narrow the focus and hit it hard. Don’t get me wrong, this is not about moving or making changes in my family. It is really about my time and what I use it for. Really, it’s such a God-thing, I am having a hard time putting it into words. But trust me, it’s nothing too drastic in my life in terms of everyday life. A more focused approach really…

It’s funny how this Bible read thing goes. It just starts speaking to you. Get ready for the fun. Stay tuned…
